I've always been smitten with art and that's a large part of who I am. I fell in love with Impressionism when I was in college and that's had a large influence on me. While photography and painting are my primary outlets, I have a great appreciation for many other art forms.
I currently paint with acrylics and started incorporating mixed media several years ago. Although I paint a variety of subject matter, my family has served as inspiration for a number of paintings and my daughter has been a mostly willing model over the years. We have had many photography sessions, creating atmospheres with lighting, clothing and locations that are as much of the creative process as the paintings themselves.
I paint mostly from photos I've taken on outings but when I'm not sure what I want to paint, I often start with putting down colors I'm attracted to in abstract form to see what develops. The colors and shapes most always reveal a subject and the painting starts to emerge, sometimes through several evolutions. I often will set a painting aside for a couple of days and start a new one while processing how I want to progress with the first one. I tend to go back and forth from painting to painting until I'm satisfied with each.
